Swarms!
Click here (NewYorkTimes) to read a blurb about a devastating locust swarm in the Levant a century ago...
And click here (YouTube) to watch a video that explains the swarm instinct (and its ecological repercussions)...
Even NASA (click here) keeps an eye on these munchers...
Has civilization met its match (time and again) with such critters?

Is there the ability for the locusts to migrate to other areas aside from Africa? What would happen if they were introduced in the desert areas of the Lower 48?

The thought of a locust swarm covering 460 miles is a terrorizing thought. Fairbanks to Anchorage going the the back way (Delta Junction) is 400 miles, this is massive to say an insect has this much coverage. Yes we have met our match because we know the connections, the cycle of life's dependence on every animal. Lion King gets it right.
We need all life forms so we must find a way to live with the locust.
